1. Have a good Antivirus program, keep it up to date and run a regular scan.
2. Have a good Spyware/Adware removal program, keep it up to date and run a regular scan.
3. Make sure to always get the critical Windows Updates, either automatically or from the site.
4. Have a good Firewall, which is properly configured.
5. DON'T OPEN ATTACHMENTS!
6. Use Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome as your default browser. Only using Internet Explorer as necessary.
